See See!

Intra-ocular lenses like Alcon Laboratories’ ReSTOR can help you improve your vision without eyeglasses, contact lenses, or laser surgery.  You heard it here first!  Previously used in cataract surgery, the ReSTOR gives you near, far and intermediate vision and can be implanted during Medicare-covered cataract procedures for an additional fee. (Most implanted lenses require you to use reading glasses for life after your surgery.)  Now some people are having them implanted when they DON’T have cataracts just so they can see at all distances without other forms of correction, a procedure that is NOT, of course, covered by insurance or Medicare. Check it out by scrolling down on www.seewithlasik.com.

Stand tall, Grandma!

Cement in your spine?  Well, not exactly, but since 1999 115,000 men and women have relieved pain and corrected spinal fractures caused by cancer and osteoporosis with balloon kyphoplasty.  A balloon is inserted in the person’s spine to straighten it, then a cement-like material is injected into the bone to stabilize the fracture. Check it out, for you or your mom, at www.spinalfracture.com.  They have a new lumbar spinal stenosis device as well.

Power to people

The power of pleasure is in your own hands – literally!  The most common sexual practice on the planet isn’t what you’d think – it’s masturbation.  You don’t have to wait for someone to give you sexual satisfaction, and it’s not just something you do if you’re not in a relationship.  In magazine surveys, 72% of married men and 68% of married women said they (more…)

Revive soy?

I mentioned Revival Soy products in my first book, Midlife Mamas on the Moon, and now a study from the Johns Hopkins University shows that Revival Soy products can reduce hot flashes and night sweats.  I don’t know about other forms of soy, but a high-quality Revival shake once a day significantly improved quality of life compared to placebo in this study.  These products (www.revivalsoy.com) have 6 times the concentration you’ll find in soy milk, so that may be a factor.
